The game I'd like to introduce is called Turkey Touchdown, available on ABCya. The game is a fun and interactive way for students to practice their math facts in subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division. Then you can choose what level you would like to practice at, ranging from easy, medium, and hard. I can integrate this activity into multiple facets of my math units and activities throughout the year to encourage students to continue to practice their fact fluency. One way I can incorporate this game into my classroom is through center work with a focus on review of fact fluency. I would have students practice on their own devices on each of the four operations. One particular unit of study where this game can be incorporated is through a graphing unit. Students can practice making bar graphs with their results and then discuss with a peer about which rounds were their best and why. Which round was your best score and why?

My learning objectives for this game would be that students will practice working on their strategic thinking and analyzing patterns to avoid collision and get across the endzone safely. A fun and visual way to represent the students' results from the game is on a bar graph. This activity directly relates to the learning objective by having the students analyze their scores from multiple rounds. I would introduce this game to the students as a whole class first. I would demonstrate how to get to the game, followed by going step by step on how to navigate the game. Finally, I would explain the three different levels in which the game offers to play before breaking off to their own devices. Once they were on their own devices, I would then have them go step by step while I was doing the same on a larger display screen. After everyone was on the correct app then I would have everyone start on the easy level using addition and subtraction before breaking off into multiplication and division on different levels. Do differentiate, I would use centers as a way to have different levels of difficulty using different operations provided in the game. In terms of assessing their work, they complete the following game by making their graph, to show me how well they followed the directions provided from the game, and then applying it to their work is one form of assessment. The other would be to provide questions that they would need to physically answer instead of having a conversation with their classmates. The learning goal would be to have the students find a fun and engaging way to practice their fact fluency on a level at which they are comfortable with then find appropriate times to use the application as a way to challenge themselves in their fluency to help them grow as a learner.

  1. Hi Joe,
Turkey Touchdown is fun, although I am better at my math facts than navigating that field goal mini game. I think this is a great fact fluency game and I like that we are able to differentiate by offering different operations and different difficult levels. Your strategy to implement the game whole group and then branch off is excellent. I have not used any games from this site in my classroom, but I will be bringing this one into my third grade classroom. Thank you for sharing!
